1940Craftsman apprenticeship, initial undergraduate studies in Aeronautical Engineering
1945 Amputation of both forearms, loss of one eye (war injury)
1945-46 Invitation by Fritz von Graevenitz to work in the atelier at Solitude Palace near Stuttgart
1946 Studies (with interruptions to finish his high school diploma) at the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design with Willi Baumeister, Henninger and Son
1950 High school diploma
1953 State examination in Art
1953-58 Studies at the University of Tübingen
1956 State examination in Germanics
1658-80 Teaching and examination positions at various high schools (Gymnasien) in the State of Baden-Württemberg and at the University of Tübingen, Chair for the State Examination in Art History, member of various expert commissions
1963 Completion of doctoral thesis; awarded Dr. phil. (Art History, Archeology, Germanics) Met H.D. Kahnweiler in Paris in conjunction with doctoral thesis (participation in the organization a Picasso exhibition)Founding member of the Künstlerbund (artists' coalition) Tübingen Member of the Württemberg Kunstverein (art society)
